Peter Weller stars in this urban sci-fi Western as Murphy, a good cop who literally gets shot to pieces while on duty and winds up reborn as a crime-fighting machine. An ambitious executive (Miguel Ferrer) at OCP, the corporation running the futuristic city of Detroit, fuses Murphy's torso with bulletproof steel limbs and rewires his brain with computer chips so he will have no will of his own. Murphy's former partner (Nancy Allen) tries to help RoboCop remember his human past, but his circuitry blocks whatever dim memories remain. Luckily, a chance encounter with one of his killers wakes up the human essence in RoboCop, causing him to rebel against his programming and commence on a one-cyborg mission of vengeance that leads all the way to the top of OCP. This second English-language film by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is unremittingly brutal, darkly comic, and filled with bits of clever satire and pathos. A special highlight is the hilariously incompetent ED-209, RoboCop's main rival in the department of automated law enforcement. Considered by many critics to be one of the best films of its genre, ROBOCOP was followed by several sequels and a 1994 TV series.

    The Movie Itself: Our Reviewer's Take

    I suppose the basic story of 'RoboCop' is pretty well known, so I'll skip the lengthy plot synopsis. But it is likely that in the character of Officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller), Verhoeven saw more than just a surprisingly poignant story of a murdered cop who, after being "reinvented" as a bio-mechanical killing machine, has his memories erased yet still dreams of electric sheep.

    1980s, high tech action at its best. +++++

    Iron Man before "Iron Man". The criminals are crazy bad but Robocop is way badder. High tech action movie right out of the 1980s with excellent special effects. No CGI for that guy.

    Robo cop Blu Ray review

    Robocop is one of my all time favorite movies. I was looking forward to getting it on blu ray. I was a little disappointed to see there are no special features on the disk other than the original theatrical trailer. Other than that, it was great.

    I expected more in the special features department than theatrical trailers, none the less its still a classic great sci fi movie and unfortunately Its already been rumored to be remade same as red dawn . nobody in hollywood has original ideas any more just try to revive something that worked 20 years ago, and hope that the late 30 something gen will flock to it and bring their offspring in hopes of converting them into watching the monkey flinging poo they call remakes theses days
