About this product

Product Information

Battle through a post-apocalyptic landscape, defeat demons, and manage the power of an ancient soul-stealing sword as you balance the forces of good and evil. In Shinobi for PlayStation 2, you control Hotsuma as he slashes at enemies in search of answers about the mysterious sword he possesses. This action genre game is packed with stunning graphics, anime-style videos, and awesome slash action gameplay. Shinobi for PS2 follows the adventures of Hotsuma, who is the leader of the Oboro ninja clan. The ninja warrior became leader of his clan by wielding the power of Akujiki, a magic sword that holds evil powers. Akujiki steals the souls of those it kills and can slowly steal the soul of its possessor if it is not fed with new souls. After an earthquake, Tokyo is overrun with hellspawn and the Oboro clan is destroyed. Hotsuma must beat demons, reanimated ninjas, and other enemies in battle while claiming new souls for his sword. The gameplay in Shinobi for PlayStation 2 offers an action video game that features a classic hack and slash style. You use the controls to make jab and slash attacks on each enemy. As the game progresses, the enemies become harder to defeat. After each kill, Akujiki consumes the enemy’s soul, but if you go too long between kills, it starts to consume Hotsuma’s soul. Hotsuma also has a few other powers up his sleeve. He can use ninja powers to use fire and shock waves against his enemies, become temporarily invincible, paralyze attackers, or run and jump at his opponents. You must learn new powers to beat enemies in harder levels. There are eight levels in the game, and each level ends when Hotsuma defeats a boss. Shinobi for PlayStation 2 is the product of Overworks and Sega. The development and publishing team originally created the game for Sega Dreamcast games systems, but released it on PlayStation 2 when Dreamcast ceased production. Overworks and Sega launched the game for a November 2002 release date in the Japanese and North American markets. This product is the Japanese version, which is playable on Japanese and European Region 2 PlayStation 2 consoles. It is not compatible with other games systems and versions such as Nintendo 3DS or PS4. The game features an M for Mature rating due to violence. This Shinobi game for PlayStation 2 is the 10th game in the popular Shinobi series, which first launched in 1987. Previous games in the series include the original Shinobi arcade and PC game, Shadow Dancer, and The Revenge of Shinobi. Subsequent versions include Nightshade and Shinobi 3D. The original games were arcade games and featured a lead character named Joe Musashi. This classic character appears in Shinobi for PS2 as a hidden character. You can unlock him by successfully completing missions. You can find Shinobi for PS2 games at a variety of budget levels. The game is discontinued in disc form, but you can still find collector’s discs to add to your collection.

Interesting update into the 3D era and moves away from classic Shinobi, but still works

This game is overall good, even more so when you consider the time of release. There is quality to the artwork albeit an overall dark aesthetic/environments. The biggest drawback of the game is the camera, how "flimsy" it is to move and stay at a rough angle and/or its inability to keep up with the intensely fast-paced action. You can move the camera with the right analog stick but if Overworks had been able to implement a Tomb Raider/Soul Reaver-like camera, it would have been SO good. ShinobiPS2's is an interesting update into the 3D era and moves away from classic Shinobi, but still works.

  • Shinobi recent review (2010 3/6/2010)

Disliked and NOT PROPERLY reviewed back years ago when it came out, due to its difficulty, players where still curious and pushed to understand this big boy platformer. As many have found it, Shinobi may possibly be the best 3D platformer hands down. Many people didn't know how to play this game in the western world, where as in Japan players are used to mechanics heavy games. The mechanics in Shinobi are by far some of the best I have ever dealt with in a 3D game. He moves and controls like any Ideal character of his type should. The "Tate" system is by far one of the most innovative game-play rules i have ever seen implemented in a 3D platfaormer such as this. once You can master Shinobi's moves and "TATE" the game begins to shine and surpass many of the current day platformers when it ...

  • Shinobi!!!! :) :) Playstation 2, 2002.

I purchased this on June 5th. Since my company ships directly from USA in to my homeland (Costa Rica) it takes a couple of days to arrive!!. The selleer was great!! He provided me with a tracking the article was perfectly described!. What can I say, back in 2002... I had like 20 years, no job... I only had some freelance jobs fixing computers and I didn´t have a PS2... I always loved this game... By working hard and getting my first job I was able to have this game 2 years later... at the end of 2003... Obviously my console was modified, but man, I practically played this game all day long after work!.. Over time, the quality of the copy (a game ripped and burned in to a DVD it cost me like 20 bucks or something back in the day) went damaged and I needed the replacement of this ...

  • Shinobi: A Classic Challenge

Every now and then I get the urge to play a game that involves lots of action but doesn't have to make much physical sense. If you like these kind of games then Shinobi for the PS2 is for you. Released in 2002 the game has graphics that were well beyond most games of it time. While it won't compare to the modern games of PS3 and XBox 360, it will still dazzle the player with high speed action and electro-Japanese sound effects and music. As far as game play goes, Shinobi is for the quick-witted player. The crazy physics of dashing, double-jumping, and cutting through almost anything with your sword are amazing. Good reflexes and timing are a major key to winning the game, and an underestimation of distance or space can prove fatal to your character. There are no in-level checkpoints, ...

  • Game review

One of the most bad ass samurai games of PS2 with an epic storyline, sucks they don't make them like they use to. There is also another game parallel to this called Nightshade. This game really gets you on the edge and gets addictive very quick.
