Non-essential and very overpriced.
I have the 40-150 PRO F/2.8, and it comes with a rotatable tripod mounting collar which is both heavy and bulky. It’s easy enough to remove but then leaves exposed locating studs on the lens body which could potentially get damaged or more likely damage other equipment in the camera bag. The DR-66 decoration ring is simply a lightweight plastic ring which replaces the tripod mounting collar and covers up those studs. It is totally non-essential though, so I cannot recommend that others *should* buy it. It is also immensely overpriced: a Chinese copy (if available) would cost probably about £1 and would still be profitable for the manufacturer. As an Olympus item supplied in just a plastic heat-sealed bag, without any instructions, it’s not worth more than £5. If it included an ... You wouldn’t think that this needs instructions but removing the mounting collar might not be obvious to some users, and installing the decoration ring require such a firm twist until the fixings snap into places that it feels like the ring might break. A user instruction sheet would therefore provide confirmation and inspire user-confidence. Once installed it looks very neat and a casual observer would never guess that it’s an added accessory. The supplied heat-sealed bag cannot be re-used once opened, and even if no storage pouch is provided for the mounting collar, if the DR-66 decoration ring was supplied in a reusable clip-seal/zip-seal bag large enough to store the collar then it would be better than nothing at all and only cost Olympus mere pennies. As a cheap alternative to the DR-66, users could just wrap a wide elastic rubber band or two around where the DR-66 would go just to cover and protect the mounting studs.

Lighten your lens
This makes the lens far lighter and easier handle if you're one of those people who doesn't like the tripod mount. It clicks into place and is a tight fit but also easily removed. It looks good on the lens, especially when using on smaller bodies without a battery grip.
