Get 'em while you still can.
Old but still good. That about sums this model up. Whilst it doesn't have flush glazing and so probably will no longer satisfy the demands of today's serious modellers it's still impressive. It's got decent detail and looks very similar to the Replica Railways version to me at least. Pat Hammond, in one of the Ramsey Guides says the Replica version is a model of a 1960/61 BRCW built vehicle for BR. Since to me the Lima version appears very similar (though I could be deceiving myself I suppose), it follows that it's also possibly based on a similar vehicle. I now have four versions of the Lima model in brown & cream, carmine & cream, maroon and SR green. They all have the same shortcomings...and charm for me. On the plus side, they look like a MK I vehicle in outline, they look like ... Old but still good. That about sums this model up. Unfortunately, besides the non-flush windows, they also have completely fictitious running numbers - though that's fairly easy to sort out with a few replacement numbers. If you're a rivet counter or a serious modeller, they won't do it for you. If you like to watch your trains run around from 4 feet away, you're not likely to pick up the imperfections. If you like a bargain and begrudge paying serious money for the latest Bachmann version, then these, in good condition, are the bees-knees. Get 'em while you can.
