The Samsung 970 Evo plus is one of the best and fastest m2 nvme blade ssd drives in its price range, at this great price it was a bargain and works very well in a Mac with most recent firmware, which this one already had, saving me downloading and flashing, so worked out of the box. Ridiculous speed increases over sata 1/2/3 ssd’s, make the system feel instant and snappy like a very powerful new/current machine despite being used on a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 > 5,1. Used as a boot drive with Mac OS 10.14.6 Mojave.

I needed a larger system drive and used this to upgrade my 256GB Samsung SM951. Whilst both are GEN3 drives, the 970 Plus is significantly faster in sequential read and write tests; rather less so in random tests. I've installed the SM951 in a PCI-e adapter to be used for data storage. Surprisingly I actually get better speeds in the PCI-e slot compared to the M.2 slot on the motherboard (an ASUS Z170-A). With SSD prices falling this was a no-brainer decision.
