  • Energy Efficient

Working well as an ADSL modem linked to a Linksys router. Runs cool and doesn't use much energy which is important. Can be used in Bridge mode if I can work out how...

  • Cheap and cheerful and it works well

TP-Link kit is mostly cheap and plasticky looking and I'd hesitate to install it in a business environment, but for home use it's just great. I'm using TP-Link switches and powerline adapters and they work without hassle. I've noted other reviewers' comments about SNR and distance from the telephone exchange. All I can say is for my use case these issues aren't a problem. I can practically see the exchange from my house and the SNR is just fine. The 8817 syncs up at around 20Kbps and - so far - has kept the line up without problems, certainly as well as the BT HomeHub 2 that was there before. I initially set it up as a router as it's easier to configure the connection to my ISP (BT) that way. It seems pretty capable in that mode, but if you need wireless or more than one Ethernet port ...

  • Solid little ADSL2+ router/modem

Would highly recommend if you just want a solid ADSL2+ modem to hook up to a more capable firewall or wireless AP as opposed to going all-in-one route. Also handy as a backup in case main router/modem packs up. Feels cheap and plasticky but who cares its probably going to be hidden out of site anyway.
