If you are not a ham operator, this book will mean little to you. BUT IF YOU ARE, it is invaluable. While each edition has slightly different content, they all cover the essentials of home-brew know how, on-the-air etiquette, necessary calculations and factors for consideration, atmospheric phenomenon, etc. If you are as lucky as I was, for once, you will also get two CDs, one of which contains the digital edition of the book and the other is chock-full of software to assist the operator in a myriad of areas including digital test equipment. The information about emergency communications and assistance is indispensable. Every ham needs the handbook, it is the bible of ham radio and can inspire you to innovate and fabricate.

Radio amateurs build and use radio equipment, and the ARRL handbook provides numerous examples and details for doing this. The ARRL has been around for decades, and I bought my first copy back in 1949 when I was studying to become a ham. I purchased a surplus Army Signal Corps receiver and built my 100 Watt transmitter using the circuit in the handbook. Constructed a dipole antenna, and the system worked great. Much more current information about the state of amateur radio and the way to build and test the equipment in the current issue.
great presentation for the newby.
