I saw the film more than 25 years ago, it stayed with me and over time I forgot why. I used to check out for the soundtrack in record stores when I went to the US and never found it. However pottering on e-bay recently I did. I rediscovered it was an early work by Randy Newman, with a lot of elements to be found in his later stuff. So then I saw the DVD on e-bay and bought that. It is a lively and entertaining film to watch with touches of pathos and lots of humour. Historical content and comment on racism and social mores is a bit glossy. But a thoroughly good watch!
