About this product

Product Information

In his own uniquely acid tongue, Paul O Grady traces the hilarious tales of life in Irish Catholic Birkenhead that took him from a virtuous altar-boy ( my first drag ) to Britain s best loved entertainer. It s a life that includes, varyingly, stints in an abbatoir, as a social worker, in a high-class Mayfair brothel and traipsing down to London to chase his dreams. By 23, Paul O Grady had been a father, husband, drag queen, gay lover, divorcee and degenerate. He did it all with a smile on his face, making a mental note to register the whip-smart one-liners that would later inform his star-studded path from the fringes of comedy to the heart of the British establishment, first as his own brilliant comic creation Lily Savage, then, triumphantly, as himself. aul s remarkable childhood and early life is littered with a dizzying cast-list of rogues, rascals, lovers, fighters, saints and sinners. Oh, and one iconic bus conductress. Told with pathos, love, empathy and, naturally, biting humour the story of Paul O Grady is that of everyman, everywoman and, inevitably, every drag act, ever. He has been rich and skint, posh and common, straight and gay. He has mixed with stars and whores

Item was just as described (near new) and I had excellent communication with this seller. The item arrived much sooner than expected, which was a nice surprise. The only downside was the item could have been packaged better as the packaging was torn in places, exposing the the dust jacket of the book when I received it. Overall, a positive transaction.

Package arrived as would expect in good condition & promptly from when ordered all items in great condition & as or as described in the description & for a good descent price & what better recomendation for a seller who provided a standard of service expected not just in a reasonable prompt delivery, price, & also a satisfied satisfaction in the quality of the items previously supported & recommended by other customer recommendations from ebay feedback but to want to be a repeat customer.

    Good old Paul O’Grady

Amazing book... Makes you laugh, makes you think and it touches your heart so deeply... It was recommended to me by an ICU senior nurse Stephen just happened to sit next to me on the plane... as soon as we landed I bought the book... I am so glad I did... feels like Paul is sitting next to you and having a right good chat with you... Perhaps I will never see Stephen again but I am grateful 🙏 ❤️ that our paths have crossed... thank you so much Stephen for the lovely chat and making me laugh... flight felt like it only took for a minute to land.... So if you like Paul O’Grady just get this book and hold Paul's hand and have a great time down in the memory lane with him :)

  • Nostalgia

From the moment I started reading I was back in my childhood. The only difference was the location. Paul o’Grady is a brilliant story teller. He writes the way he talks. He’s brilliant. Hope he’s going to write a sequel.
