This could be a modern interpretation of 'Planet of the dreamers' by John Mc Donald, written in 1951. , This film is so believable, that if technology continues to advance, and human nature remains the same, this could be the inevitable consequence for the video gaming generation- perhaps sooner than we think.

another sc-fi vehicle for Bruce Willis; an interesting idea, just rather confusing plot wise. Tom Greer (Willis) lives in a world where everyone has a surrogate android which, within the twilight world of their own apartments, people are plugged into and live out idealised fantasy world, in thier surrogate bodies. Willis’s surrogate is an FBI agent as is he and it comes to the attention of Willis and his female partner that surrogates are being destroyed and their operators are having their brains exploded in the process (fail-safes are supposed to protect the operators). Willis discovers that a human has a machine that sends a ray that destroys surrogates and the operators. One of the victims is the son of the inventor of all surrogates, but this is where it gets confusing. Because at the end of the film the inventor wants to destroy all surrogates but also their users. Greer of course intervenes at the 11th hour saving billions of lives. But if the inventor invented the machine to destroy surrogates why was it used on his son? This is very confusing. As is, in the 2nd half of the film, and the fact that Willis is in a fractured marriage with Rosamund Pike, both of whom are grieving over a dead child. Anyway they are forced to interact as humans once all surrogates grind to a halt so the story turns into a romance at the end. Confusingly structured film. Filming took place at locations of towns in Massachusetts.Read full review
Original science fiction thriller set at a time when people put their feet up in a special electronic chair and let facsimiles of themselves (surrogates, in fact) live their lives for them. When things start to go horribly wrong, Bruce Willis (and his young-looking surrogate, sporting a great thatch of hair!) is the FBI guy who leaves his chair to sort things out. Great special effects and action sequences.
Good old bruce willis in action sci fi yarn about computer robotic humans and conspiracy to wipe them out of humanity but who is really who? a good movie well worth a watch and good extras!
