    good... could be better

I like the concept, though a thermostat would be a great improvement. It's definitely not quiet but it is a whole house fan so I didn't expect quiet. It didn't install in an older mobile home without some modifications to my window frame, but that's likely due to how funky they built mobile homes back then. It moves plenty of air even on low speed. I'm certain it will cut my AC load considerably. I have a line monitor on it but not enough time to decide how much it's costing me to run the fan and temps have only spiked up a couple times so far this season.

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY…

In truth there is nothing ugly about it, It's also mid duty weight, not particularly light or heavy. What's good about is that the shell is made of durable plastic, hence we need not worry about it resting over time. What's bad is that it's noisy, it rattles per expectation tolerable perhaps, but it's very aggressively whooshing a storm (I suppose that it wouldn't matter any if used in an attic or somewhere remote in a duplex setting). It's my opinion that it lacks fine tuning blade balancing or something else having to do with the shape or angle of the blades? This unit is fixed position, could definitely benefit from having an ability tilt up and down and/or swing to a fixed direction like the old mid-century units could...

So far, this fan seems to be a quality product. It's sturdy and runs smoothly. With a more shallow pitch and higher rpms, this fan is a bit noisier that the old fans from the 1950s and 1960s that I'm accustom to but it does pull air well. I also like that you can close the window for inclement weather if needed.

  • Moves a great volume of air!

Not the metal behemoth that we had in the window of the house I grew up in, but a pretty good air mover and probably the best you will find nowadays. I am very happy it so far and it is as quiet as one could expect from a fan of this size.

  • Great for the whole house

This fan works well to bring cool air up from the first floor and push the hot second floor air out all at once. It’s a great product. No issues. No complaints. I just used two long screws to hold the fan in place, low profile and works very well with the size of our windows.

  • Air King 20 inch fan

1). There aren't a lot of instructions about installation, and the screws to mount the fan to the window frame are a little short for some types of windows. It does come with a template to help locate the mounting screws. I ended up using 1 1/4 screws. The windows have vinyl frames, and the supplied 3/4 inch would not reach the wooden frame the windows are mounted in. If you mount on the inside of frame, you will generally have to tighten the mounting screws from the outside. That generally means using a small ladder or step ladder outside the house. However once installed the mounting is very robust, and you really can close the window even with the fan in place, so the installation can be permanent. It is probably better to have a helper when you install. The entire assembly is quite large, and it comes in an enormous box. 2). The fan is pretty noisy, it moves a lot more air than a 16 inch and it makes a lot more noise. While it is 3 speeds, there isn't a lot of difference between the speeds or the resultant noise levels. Low is 2510 cfm, medium is 3120 cfm and high is 3560 cfm 3). Construction the mounting parts, the fan, and fan screen are all metal. Much of the 'body' is plastic, but definitely is NOT flimsy. 4). The fan uses a 3 prong plug with a heavy cord, so it is grounded. That is probably safer than the common polarized plug used on smaller fans. 5). Motor is 1/6 horsepower, and is permanently lubricated so it should provide years of trouble free service. It appears to be 'industrial' quality

  • Great "Used" Fan

The only problem with my "used" fan was a slight bend on one of the wings. The slight damage saved me over $50.00. Draws air through a one level five bedroom house. Would definitely buy again!

  • Great Whole-House Fan!

This is a pretty good product. It's a fan, so not terribly noisy, but you wouldn't want it in your home office window. It does move a tremendous amount of air. This is a valid, whole-house fan, with ease of installation it's main advantage over one in the attic. I had been looking for one to install up there, but didn't relish the idea of crawling around up there at 65. This is an alternative that works very well. So far it's lived up to it's promise. I highly recommend.

  • "Open box" version worked well for me

Box was in rough shape, and I was a little concerned at first, as it appeared it may have been used once. But after installing it, was more than satisfied with it, and happy I went with an opened box version, for the added savings on the price. Moves plenty of air, and unlike what I read in other reviews, I did not find it to be noisy compared to any other fan I have owned. If you have larger than 27" windows, you may want to leave the "knock out" pieces of the shroud in place at first and try it like that. You can always take them out, but cant put them back in after.
