Product Information

A classic mystery at Christmas. Perfect for fans of Mystery in White by J Jefferson Farjeon. It is no ordinary Christmas at Lexham Manor. And the mood is anything but festive. Six holiday guests find themselves the suspects in a murder inquiry when the old Scrooge, Nathaniel Herriard, who owns the substantial estate, is found stabbed in the back. Whilst the delicate matter of inheritance could be the key to this crime, the real conundrum is how any of the suspects could have entered the locked room to commit this atrocity. For Inspector Hemingway of Scotland Yard, the investigation is complicated by the fact that every guest is hiding something u throwing all of their testimonies into question and casting suspicion far and widea

  • A Locked Room Mystery

Having long been a fan of Georgette Heyer's Regency romance novels, I recently started reading her detective novels. Some I have found more enjoyable than others and this is, so far, one of the best. I enjoyed her characters, the plot is complicated (involving a locked room) and the clues are all laid out before the end with no sudden surprise. Heyer always seems to throw in a romance as well and the one in this book is appealing. Personally, I think Heyer's plots are far better than Agatha Christie's, but admit that her police inspectors don't have quite the same appeal as a Hercule Poirot or a Miss Marple. Still, the story should appeal to lovers of detective novels in the country house murder tradition.
