Synopsis
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER In this, the extraordinary conclusion of the ice-age epic series, Earth's Children(R), Ayla, Jondalar, and their infant daughter, Jonayla, are living with the Zelandonii in the Ninth Cave. Ayla has been chosen as an acolyte to a spiritual leader and begins arduous training tasks. Whatever obstacles she faces, Ayla finds inventive ways to lessen the difficulties of daily life, searching for wild edibles to make meals and experimenting with techniques to ease the long journeys the Zelandonii must take while honing her skills as a healer and a leader. And there are the Sacred Caves that Ayla's mentor takes her to see. They are filled with remarkable paintings of mammoths, lions, and bears, and their mystical aura at times overwhelms Ayla. But all the time Ayla has spent in training rituals has caused Jondalar to drift away from her. The rituals themselves bring her close to death, but through them Ayla gains A Gift of Knowledge so important that it will change her world. Pre Historic Era

I love the Earths Children Series. I had read some of the original books many years ago. Since then Jean Auel has added books for a total of six. With her extensive research, she has been able to create an amazing storyline that will envelop your imagination. You will be able to envision the mighty cave lions, the mammoths, the glaciers and the original humans that survived there. 5 stars!!!

  • Entertaining and educational

I have read all the books in this series, haven't finished this one yet, however, love the content and the author's style of writing. She really makes you think about how it might have been in a time when things like fire, tools and shelters were being discovered and formed. Great emotion within the relationships of the characters. Always hate when a book is done, but again, have loved all in this collection.

  • Excellent reading, beautifully and accurately written. She is a very gifted Lady.

I have not yet had time to read it yet but have read 4 of her books on Ayla and all were fascinating so I am very confident the last two books, Stone Shelters and Painted Caves will also be AWESOME!!

  • One of a kind, VERY historically creative fiction

I would suggest starting with the first book and reading all of them before this siixth and last of the series. Each book has synopsis from the former book so can be read separately but I would not advise that. Just learn to peruse the repeated sections so you dont miss the action and character development. You can't get everything just reading the last book. They are all wonderful. I can't put them down and have mixed feelings about finishing this last one. I will miss all of the people.

  • Earth's Children series is a fascinating read

This is the last in a six book series. The previous five have have been a fascinating perfectly believable tale of human kind during the last ice age. All the fictional characters are compelling and the factual settings are very well researched. A fascinating read.
