This is a great movie--some comedy & definitely romantic. River Phoenix plays a very interesting James Wright--a different kind of character--part sensitive and part a dark character. Samantha Mathis captures the role of Miranda (River's leading lady). Together River & Samantha really cook! And they sing pretty well separately & also together. There is a spark there--a lot of eye contact and it is not hard to tell that their connection is not just on the silver screen, but is destined to play itself out in real life. Sandra Bullock plays Linda Lou and she is so natural that you could forget she is playing a role. Also Dermot Mulroney plays a sensitive Kyle (River's best friend and the third part of the triangle with River & Samantha). A great look into Nashville's hopeful song writers and singers and the struggle to be recognized and become stars. It has a quirky ending and if I were writing it, I would write it just a little more definitely happy everafter--but real life is sometimes pretty "iffy". I have watched it several times and it remains one of my all time favorites.Read full review
For anyone who has ever had a dream in life, this movie will inspire you to follow and reach for it, no matter what the obsticle. The story tells of the journey of a girl who goes chasing her dream finding love, heartbreak, and herself. The gorgeous and talented Sandra Bullock and equally talented Dermot Mulroney deliver their usual stunning performances while the beautiful and fiery Samantha Mathis and greatly missed acting legend River Phoenix lead the cast in this powerful drama. Along with this phenomenal cast, there is an equally strong supporting cast including music greats like K. T. Oslin and Trisha Yearwood as well as other familiar faces. I can absolutely rate this as one of my favorite movies and welcome it to my movie library.
This is my favorite movie of all time. It has a great cast and wonderful fun songs. I liked the movie because its a story of determination and love in the country music setting. It is not the typical hip-hop or rock themes you often see in movies. It makes country music entertaining, especially since I do not listen to country. Even though its not rated R, you can just sit back and enjoy an easy flowing movie like this in front of the kids, since there is no foul language or drug related scenarios. Its nice to get away from these scenes once and a while.
