Our band has been rehearsing in a theatre building that is close to a hundred years old, and the quality and grade of electrical wiring is sub-par. To compound matters, we're in a near constant high line condition being just a few miles from a major hydroelectric generating facility. These small line conditioners and surge protectors use an electrolytic capacitor as a filter to provide a time buffer for low line(brown out) conditions which cause tube amps to sag to the point of danger, and help smooth out the ripple current that older transformers require. When you have ground loop issues, the Hum-X adapter is hard to beat, but for line spikes and sags, this adapter will save your expensive digital and vintage tube gear. We love them and highly recommend the Gator to other musicians.

This surge protector has a high voltage and low voltage warning so if the power is fluctuating you can use it to let you know to unplug other devices that aren't on surge protectors or that could be affected in other parts of your home. It only has one Appliance port but that is good enough because it is designed to handle one Appliance such as a refrigerator, washer, HVAC system or a splitter can be attached for a couple of smaller devices that don't have a lot of amperage. It takes 3 minutes to warm up the device so don't think that it's broken just because it doesn't send power to your refrigerator straight away, just read the instructions first but that's about it, very simple. So far I've had a couple of storms and none of the devices that have been attached to the surge protectors have had any issues. I would definitely recommend this if you don't want to end up having to buy a new washer or HVAC after a thunderstorm. Read full review
