A really useful tool, far more effective and convenient than a pump used in connection with a separate iron and probably as effective as an expensive solder removal tool with a powered vacuum pump.

You have to follow the instructions and let this heat up for 10 minutes before use. It works great thank you. I used this to restore a dead xbox back to life by desoldering the solder points on the back of the motherboard and then attaching and sordering on a clock capacitor for a revision 1.6 hey Preston it works

    Best Tool Ever Bought

I use this to replace parts in tape decks, chips and capacitors, it makes light work of the biggest capacitor, such a great tool taking the sucker part out can be a pain at first though. Brill tool 10/10

  • Most critical review

Died after about 4 hours use

Product worked well on first use removing 8, 5 pin relays from a board efficiently. Since then it has been temperamental, sometimes working ok, sometimes failing to melt the solder even when left to warm up for 5 minutes. This morning, there was an unpleasant electrical burning smell, it tripped a mains breaker and is now dead. It is 5 months old, has been used for less than 4 hours in total and I'm pretty sure the supplier will find an excuse to avoid replacing or refunding me for it although sold as a 'new' item, I believe I am entitled to 12 months warranty. Avoid this product unless your requirement is a 1 off, in which case it might survive long enough to meet your needs

  • Could be a lot better for small pcbs

This tool appears to be designed for large PCBs. The tip is much too large for the normal size (0805 and 0603) through-hole pcbs, making the it difficult to use and ineffective for clearing small component holes. Particularly as it unavoidably "jumps" when releasing the plunger. Different tip sizes should be provided for small pcb use. Otherwise it does what is claimed for a simple device, provided the sizes suitable. The other problem is that if left on continually, it gets VERY hot, which could damage small tracks. Use with caution on small pcbs. Really, better to pay more and get a proper desoldering tool if you are working with pcbs.

  • Easy to use removes solder leaves a clear hole for fitting new components and no mess

Tools good but very easy to burn yourself gets very hot if use it for long periods

  • Ok for a short while

I bought one of these to do some repairs to some amps and it was great for the first couple of months. After that the end of the internal plunger snapped off and it hasn’t worked since. It does the job that it’s supposed to, but I would have expected it to last longer than 8 weeks.
