This movie should be seen by more people, to understand what that generation went through , so that they can have their freedom. Not for the squeamish. But Brilliant.

  • Kokoda-39th Battalion

Australian made movies about WW1/2 tend to be quite gritty and honest. This movie runs true to that genre. Its a good account of a little known episode in WW2 when the Japanese army were at the back door to Australia though had they managed to invade the huge expanse of the bush and its desert terrain would have made things really difficult for ANY invader. As it goes, the movie is full of good action and some not too bad acting. The characters become quite familiar once you have seen the movie a couple of times but what really hits home is the claustrophobic air of jungle fighting in WW2. You do actually feel trapped in the action with the 'Diggers' and its hard to switch off once the movies running. The main characters are NOT 'over the top' but are cynical yet proud at being able to ...

  • KOKODO-39TH BATTALION (DVD)

EXPECTED A GREAT ACTION MOVIE HERE, AUSSIES V JAPANESE IN NEW GUINEA JUNGLE BATTLING IT OUT THROUGH THE CREEPERS AND STEAMING MALARIA INFESTED THICKET, BUT GOT OCCASIONAL SKIRMISHES, SOME AT NIGHT AND WHEN DURING DAY, VERY LIGHT BATTLE SCENES. I DON,T MIND A PLOT AND STORY, BUT DO EXPECT A BIT MORE ACTION THAN THIS HAD TO OFFER. CAUGHT THE MOOD OF THE SITUATION, DESPERATE STRUGGLE FROM AUSSIES TO HOLD BACK THE JAPANESE ADVANCING TROUPS, SICKNESS PREVAILING ETC , BUT JUST WASN,T ENOUGH,TOO MUCH HIDING AND MARCHING FOR ME. SORRY TO DISSAPOINT ANYONE INTERESTED IN WATCHING THIS AS A WAR /ACTION ADVENTURE, BUT THAT,S MY OPINION ANYWAY.

  • Kokoda

I bought this vid because the reviews said it was good...........Hmmm i beg to differ. Based on actually events, this could have been a great movie, but i was disappointed with the result, no wonder i`d never heard of the movie! I think the producers let down the troops who actually fought on the Kokoda trail, they had an opportunity to get the real story across, but failed.
