  • A New Classic Christmas Tale

If you loved the Snowmen of Mitford or if you love any of the Karon novels about Mitford, you'll love this book. I believe that it is about to become a new classic Christmas tale. Seldom are nativity figures central in the plot of a novel. But it is the discovery of an old, old set of "Santos" or nativity figurines that start off a journey of self-exploration and a centering of the Christmas spirit on the original Reason for the Season. Pros: A lovely tale. Well written as always with Jan Karon. Christian-centered tale without being overly maudlin. Cons: I think you'd need be be a bit familiar with the Mitford series to fully "get" some of the nuances of this book.

  • Shepherds Abiding

I love Jan Karon's books. She is able to identify with daily life situations and shines light into places that you think only you've experienced and felt pain. Then your realize that it is part of the human experience and others have felt the same way. She gently touches painful memories and helps you understand that you don't have to stay in the past but move forward to wholeness in Christ.
