    • Not a well known but tyypical story

This is a very general overview of Honolulu's streetcar system. To paraphrase "if you fail to comprehend history you are doomed to repeat (the worst parts of) it" The story glosses over the why's and wherefores of the systems demise- but the authors do comment that track and some of the systems infrastructure survived theorugh WWII and could have been at least partially recommisioned. The usual trite rationale was used to describe teh situation. The rolling stock was destroyed right after abandonment. Its really a coffee table book. I believe an earlier paperback book by Gerald Best more aptly described some of the knee jerk decisions that resulted in teh abandonment on the eve of WWII.
