About this product

Product Information

Geoff Emerick became an assistant engineer at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in 1962 at age fifteen, and was present as a new band called the Beatles recorded their first songs. He later worked with the Beatles as they recorded their singles She Loves You and I Want to Hold Your Hand, the songs that would propel them to international superstardom. In 1964 he would witness the transformation of this young and playful group from Liverpool into professional, polished musicians as they put to tape classic songs such as Eight Days A Week and I Feel Fine. Then, in 1966, at age nineteen, Geoff Emerick became the Beatles' chief engineer, the man responsible for their distinctive sound as they recorded the classic album Revolver, in which they pioneered innovative recording techniques that changed the course of rock history. Emerick would also engineer the monumental Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road albums, considered by many the greatest rock recordings of all time. In Here, There and Everywhere he reveals the creative process of the band in the studio, and describes how he achieved the sounds on their most famous songs. Emerick also brings to light the personal dynamics of the band, from the relentless (and increasingly mean-spirited) competition between Lennon and McCartney to the infighting and frustration that eventually brought a bitter end to the greatest rock band the world has ever known.

A really enjoyable read . RECOMMENDED!

Being a Beatles fan for many years,..I often wondered why none of the back room boys wrote about their experiences working with the “Fab 4 “. This book from Geoff gives an insight into the workings behind the scenes and also an insight into his personal life. The many hours spent honing each song to get it “just right” highlights the amount of input from not only the band members, but also the sound engineers and production staff. It is not a “warts & all” story , but a nice overview of the everyday work of the guys who helped to create these pop masterpieces and don’t really get the credit. I think the fans would like Geoff’s book.

  • Fascinating and Compelling

Having been a great fan of The Beatles since 1963 ,I have read many books about the fab four, but this one is on a level with Mark Lewisohn's, "The Complete Beatles recording sessions". It such a compelling read, absolutely fascinating insight to what went on in the studio while recording all that fantastic music. Geoff Emerick gives a personnel look that only a few people were lucky enough to witness first hand by being there as the "magic" was made. Would recommend this book to any Beatle fan or not, truly brilliant. Thank you Geoff Emerick and Howard Massey.

  • A Very Lucky Break!

Geoff Emerick's story is the remarkable tale of a music loving school leaver who by a happy accident finds himself working at EMI as a Junior sound engineer. That in itself would have been a lucky break but his boss was George Martin and the musicians he worked with for many years were The Beatles. What more can one say?

I'm just over half way through and I'm really enjoying it.You do get a view of the fab fours characters and it's not all what you would think. Great read.
