There are reasons why this program has been on TV for all these years! Every character is endearing, the writing is superb, the comedic timing is impeccable, the countryside is gorgeous and even the harmonica playing the theme song is catching! These are all adult actors -- well seasoned in their private lives, and they bring life-learning to these characters. No one seems to be acting at all! It feels like a close-knit community of 'silver citizens' engaging in their daily activities at their normal pace. The viewer is standing in the middle, un-noticed, and observing the goings-on of this tiny English village and laughing 'til the tears are running down his face. TV DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!

A 30 year running & a very entertaining BBC comedy. These little retired men are hilarious. Slow paced life with so many fun times!! I have purchased all of region 1 DVDs that I can find. As seen on PBS. You will laugh, very enjoyable. :)

My wife & I are fans of "Last of the Summer Wine" and as such looked forward to receiving the "Collection". We are terribly disappointed. The set contains 2 full length features and six 30 minute episodes. While Brian Wilde (Foggy) appears on the DVD cover he is absent from all. His role is played by Michael Bates who is neither funny nor endearing but rather a shrill very English know it all. Compo is even scruffier than he appeared in the late 70's and eighties and Clegg is harder, less intimidated and less likable. The Collection fills a void in our DVD and VHS library of Summer Wine but it is unlikely it will played a second time. Fortunately I found a used copy at a decent price but can assure you it is not worth the full price of near $60.00. Save your money.Read full review
Movie good. Other movie is just 3 shows stuck together. Poor. Other discs are all from the first 2 years (with Blamire).. Not as good. As I said, I enjoyed the 90 minute TV Movie. That is one disc out of four.

I love this Brit comedy show! What was suppose to be just one episode in 1973 ended up becoming the longest running comedy in British television history. You have three aging delinquent men in a small town in the Yorkshires that are going through their second childhood. Compo,Clegg and Blamire are part of the original cast, which over the years have been replaced except for Clegg (Peter Sallis). They never miss a beat.....life goes on and so does the humor. I love the ladies on the show as well....Nora Batty and Auntie Wainwright are my favorites. This a a laugh out loud series that you just never tire of watching over and over!
