About this product

Product Information

For well over a hundred years, first writers and then filmmakers speculated about what the world would be like at the dawn of the 21st century. And, while we may not have flying cars just yet, technology has revolutionized countless fields, including photography. Now you can conserve a souvenir of one of the greatest changes to take place in cameras since the invention of photographic film around 1885: the Nikon D1 Digital SLR. It marked a turning point in the era of photography as the first professional digital SLR ever produced when it launched in 1999. This great collector's piece is stylish to look at and great for display. It features 2.7 megapixels of resolution and a 2-inch LCD screen and represents an important photographic milestone.

Nikon D1, the first functional DSLR

The first pure-bred Nikon DSLR. Prior to the D1, the only digital Nikons were the half Nikon, half Kodak Frankencameras of the 90's. While the D1 is about a basic as a DSLR gets, it can still produce high quality images. The only real drawbacks being it only saves images in the NTSC color space, and the NiMH battery doesn't hold a charge very long, even when new. Thankfully, there is a company, by the name of Watson, that makes a copy of the EN-4 battery, for the D1 series. I've used them, and they work well.

  • Worth the money indeed!

I couldn't afford one of these ten years ago, but I sure wanted one bad. No, it's not the latest or greatest by no means, but it's built like a rock and unless you are shooting for prints larger than 8 x 10, this is a deal! They are all over Ebay for a hundred bucks or less. I paid $94 for mine and got a battery, battery charger, strap, body cap and a MC-30 remote. The accessories alone were worth the purchase price, plus I got a backup body to boot! For a studio camera, or a starter camera in digital photography you can't beat it. The real reason to own a Nikon body, is the chance to shoot with a Nikon lens. Once the shutter is open, the quality of any image is totally dependent on the glass that is in front of it. People who spend thousands on a Nikon SLR and allow ...

  • I like the D1 series - the images at reasonable ISO remind me of Tri-X. Great tonal range too.

  • You should purchase a new model, if there is no special prejudice.

    - Why you bought it - (A):Since the equipment which was being used broke. By domestic and an outside the country ones, the article was looked for and it purchased here. - What you like most about it - (A):Performance which was in the purpose of use. - What you dislike about it - (A):Character of a battery. It is especially the shortness of an hour of use. Set to comparison with a lithium ion battery. - Whether or not you would buy the product again - (A):I would like to think anew, when the thing purchased the other day breaks.

  • The former flagship digital camera of NIKON

I have used the Nikon D1 for long time. This camera has a strong body, and works fine for me with many type of ED lends of NIKON. One issue on D1 is the battery life, which is easy spoil in short time.
