Exactly as described. Whilst traditional CDs supplied in jewel boxes often suffer in transit so too the cardboard digipak if it is n't well protected. This seller, however, made a tight fitting cardboard slipcase and posted this inside a padded envelope hence this item arrived in the condition it was sent. Thank you. Gene Kelly is the best thing in a fairly ok sort of average film
I love musicals and wondered why I had not seen this one - as it was the work of the great Arthur Freed and Vincente Minelli and starred the divine Judy Garland and the genius that was Gene Kelly supported by Gladys Cooper. Songs by Cole Porter too. Well there were various problems . Firstly Judy looks (and apparently was ) very ill and not her charming self . She looks tired and strained and only when clowning around in BE A CLOWN does she really look herself. That song is by far the best of a really (for Cole Porter) ordinary score. It took ages to get either of the principals to sing in this film - normally you bounce straight into a musical number) too. Gladys Cooper is wildly miscast as an elderly autocratic Spanish lady . She is as Spanish as Penelope Keith in TO THE MANOR BORN . ... However the worst thing about this film is the very slight and rather uninteresting story. So whilst I enjoyed it and am glad I have seen it I rather doubt I will watch it again (why would you when there are all the other brilliant Gene Kelly and Judy Garland films to see again?). Worth watching but i doubt it will be your favourite musical.

The Pirate. 1947. Stars Judy Garland and Gene Kelly in this magical musical. It tells the story of Manuela a young girl who is betrothed to marry the town mayor (Walter Slezak) but does not like him. Manuela has a secret desire about Macocoa the dashing pirate of the carribean. Enter Gene Kelly as a traveling actor and persuades under hypnosis he is indead the famous Macocoa. Manuela is smitten.Fun and games ensue when she discovers that Gene Kelly is not who she thinks he is. Famouns songs include "You can do no wrong" "Mack the black" and a hilarious finale of Judy and Gene singing "Be a clown" Not a big hit at the time but has now become a "cult" classic. Directed by Judy's then husband Vincent Minnelli. Judy suffered from Post natal depression during filming after giving birth to ... The Pirate. 1947.
