    Nostalgic and terrific!

This is a period piece mini novel that captures the "golden age" of Hollywood. It's like watching an old movie of that period and is quite entertaining. I felt myself being pulled back into that era and would have loved to read more stories about Gene's life and see more photographs.

  • Part Biography, Part Fairy Tale, and Part Drama.

This may well be the CUTEST biography I have ever read. (Of course it is actually fiction. Gene Marshall fans understand that she is a fashion doll, and a lovely one, for that matter.) However, the book doesn't read like fiction; it reads a lot like a real bio as pieced together through "interviews" with friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, and associates of Gene Marshall's. Not only that, it is an extremely interesting story. Gene's story can be compared to the ultimate American dream-come-true. Quoting from inside the front cover: "Gene Marshall: Girl Star is the chronicle of the meteoric ascension of one of Hollywood's most dazzling stars. In 1941, Gene was discovered at a movie premiere while serving as an usherette. Her journey from the darkened theater to the silver screen- told ...

  • Gene Marshall, Girl Star

This book provides the exact information I was looking for, which is Gene, the movie star’s, story. The book details Gene’s life as a star, the role she played in each movie, and, of course, the outfit she wore.

  • Gene Marshall Girl Star by Mel Odom

This book is the Gene story. How she was a fantasy of Mel Odom, and it gives an account of the real-life challenges he faced. He gives a believable life to a doll - how young, beautiful Gene Marshall was discovered by a famous director and became a star of the silver screen from 1941 to 1962. It follows the birth of Gene and how she immediately became a character and the object of our fantasies and dreams as well. If you are a doll collector of Gene this is the book to learn how she came to be.

  • Very nice book

I bought this book beacause I collect Gene dolls. I am very happy of it. It's written as a biography with "official" documents and interview. It is very easy to read. It's like a princess legend. I thing it can have more pictures and photos, but it's a really nice book.
