    Sweet and corny

    It's a sweet film, quite corny. There are some lovely bonkers moments, but it flags a bit.

    YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU" 1938 BEST PICTURE

    "You Can't Take It with You" won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1938. It was in competition with such notable films as "The Adventures of Robin Hood", "Boys Town", "Jezebel", "Test Pilot" and "Pygmalion". Directed by Frank Capra (who won his third Oscar), it lacks the humour or emotional value as his "It Happened One Night" or "It's a Wonderful Life" (both deservedly called 'classics'). However, the performances of Jean Arthur and James Stewart are delightful and the film is essential viewing if you are a fan of either of these two Hollywood Greats - or are collecting the films of Capra himself. The film portrays the lives of two very different families that come together because Arthur and Stewart fall in love. The underlying theme is power and how that power can be used or abused. ...

    You can't take it with you.

    A life changing film, the philosophy inside the film reflects very much the one in It's a wonderful life. Acting superb, very funny and very poinient even today. The acting of "Grandad" on crutches, due to his seriously bad arthrities but camouflaged as a sprain in the film touched my heart,as a sufferer myself. Should be compulsorily shown at school! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!

    I REMEMBERD WATCHING THIS FILM AND WONDERED IF IT WAS STILL AVAILABLE. I HAVE NOW SEEN IT AGAIN AND STILL FIND IT GREAT.
