The Last Samurai (DVD 2004)
I'm fond of oriental culture, traditions, mentality, so this prompted me to buy this DVD. It's 3 years after its release because, truth to be told, that time I wasn't impressed by the promo clips and press, thought it would be too Holliwoodesque. But I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the film itself and actor's performance in particular. The plot is a story about fortitude, valour, the hard choice between what soldier's duty demands and what moralities and heart tell, the tragic opposition of ages of traditions and history to agressive modern civilization. The costumes and scenery are great, authentic and every shot is a beauty. The bonus materials on disc2 are certainly a big plus, it's great to see how it was all done, what actors and producers thought, how genuinely ... Japan - an animal kingdom! Disgusted!
Japanese - one of the most weird living thing in the world. The look at lives in a different angle. It seems there is no 'individual' within the Japanese culture. In the film, you can see what 'made' and 'makes' a Japanese. Japan - an animal kingdom! Disgusted!
