Knee Deep In The Doot
Ever wanted to play multiplayer kicking demon tail? Who wouldn't. At least with a boardgame like this you can be a team working together, rather than arguing over rules. Everyone wins. Only thing that could make this better is an expasion of more monsters and more tiles to fight them on. Everything from the tiles to the figures are highly detailed in the theme of DOOM 2016. Doom
First and foremost I do not play these types of games. I have the game on the PS4 and it is just like the original. The only reason I purchased this game was for the game pieces. They are extremely detailed and numerous. I was trying to find the original pewter game pieces, but could not find an entire set and the price for each one was high. All I really wanted was a Pinkie and then by complete accident I found this game. Am currently painting each piece and customizing each base. The detail on these tiny pieces is just jaw dropping, especially the Cyber Demon. Hope this review helps a bit, from what I researched this type of game is fun to play with a group of friends and even carries things over from the PS4 game like gory kills. Really fun, light dungeon crawler.
I've always loved dungeon crawlers, but the issue with many of them is that they can take a long time to set up and they can be very intimidating for new players to learn, especially if they're not too familiar with dungeon crawlers in general. Doom avoids many of those problems by being relatively simple to learn (for the marines at least) while still feeling tactically deep. The invader (demon) player has a bit more to worry about, but even for them things don't get too complicated. In Doom: The Board Game, just like in the video game, you'll be moving around the map, completing objectives, picking up new guns, and shooting a lot of demons. Combine this fun gameplay with some really awesome miniatures and components that are pretty high quality and that ooze the Doom theme, and you've ... A ton of great miniatures and solid gameplay.
The board game, overall, is fast and fun and straight forward. Throws you into the game without TOO much fiddling about. I bought this mainly for the SUPER detailed (and super clean sculpts on the) miniatures.
