A Great Cornish Story
I love Poldark. Have done since I bought the first VHS when it came out. My mum remembered it from when it was on TV and so I bought it for her really. That's when the addiction started... So why did I give this only a 'Good' rating? I've been recently upgrading our videos to DVD. I had bought the 1984 edition of Jane Eyre and was over the moon to have it fully laid out in episodes as it was aired, rather than crushed together and edited to fit in on a VHS tape. So Poldark was next on my list and I was hoping the same. But no. No such thought was given and I have no idea if anything other than the opening titles and credits are edited out. There are four episodes on each (according to IMDB) and each runs at 50 minutes originally. According to my calculations there are 40 minutes missing ... I love Poldark. POLDARK-SERIES 1- PART 1 [DVD]
HAVING READ ALL OF WINSTON GRAHAMS POLDARK BOOKS, I COULD NOT WAIT TO SEE THE SERIES ON DVD. IT LIVED UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS AS THE CHARACTERS WERE AS I IMAGINED THEM. THE SERIES IS TRUE TO THE BOOK, AND I KNOW THAT IT WAS FILMED IN CORNWALL, WHICH MADE IT VERY SPECIAL AS I AM CORNISH. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS DRAMATISATION, YOU WILL BE VERY MUCH ENTERTAINED

Poldark Series 1
I liked the simplicity of the screenplay, but did not appreciate some of the more extreme deviations from the original books by Winston Graham. I bought it because I was either too young, or too busy, to watch the original series. I live very near the area in Cornwall where the books were set, and it is always interesting watching the screen version after reading the book series, or vice-versa
