As good as I remember
Really enjoyed re-visiting this two part mini series, the production values are extremely high & Sam Neill plays a wonderful lead as Merlin. The rest of the cast is also stellar, a truly magical adaptation of the tale that feels like it could be grounded in truth. I saw this first when I was a kid & you never know how something has aged until you re-watch but I was surprised at how good the special effects are, an so pleased I now have this & can watch it over & over.Really enjoyed re-visiting this two part mini series, the production values are extremely high & Sam Neill plays a wonderful lead as Merlin. Merline 2002 DVD of the 1998 production
For those of you whom are fans of fantasy and the lore of Arthur and Merlin, you'll be pleased with this (although considerably outdated in terms of direction and production) representation of a classic tale. Sticking quite firmly to the original legend this is a worthwhile purchase if you want a light hearted film. It it's not earthshattering in terms of acting and special effects but it does a good job of adapting the original Arthurian legend. Quite entertaining and a good escape from everyday life.For those of you whom are fans of fantasy and the lore of Arthur and Merlin, you'll be pleased with this (although considerably outdated in terms of direction and production) representation of a classic tale. An interesting slant on Arthurian legends. Merlin was the wizard to the court of Camelot according to the myth. The film is well-cast and well-presented, although special effects are fairly primitive and do tend to detract from the realism. I enjoy the general aethos, including the costumes and the realism of the film, as well as the fantasy and mystical aspect.
