Product Information

Erudite Software continues their series of Great Battles with the release of Great Battles of Hannibal. As the logical sequel (time-wise) to the preceding title in the series (Great Battles of Alexander), the impending failure of Hannibal's system of warfare paved the way for the emergence of the militaristic advancements that proved to be the foundation of what became the mighty Roman armies. In what today seems an obvious improvement, Roman legions were honed to razor sharp efficiency by the simple expedient of training and precision drills and the eventual introduction of the deadly Roman sword as the weapon of choice in battle (as well as an effective defense against the spear). Although Hannibal's notable successful campaigns are given their due in this simulation, the Macedonian system of war proved to be inept in his attempted siege and overthrow of Rome, which resulted in Rome's becoming a dominant power as well as the swan song of the Carthaginian empire. The game focuses on the rise and eventual fall of Hannibal through a dozen historic scenarios that take place between 255-190BC and can be played individually or as part of a campaign. Multi-player action is supported for the modem as well as the internet or a LAN. Action is turn-based and features an effective mouse point-and-click, menu-driven interface.
