About this product

Product Information

Literally Billions of Quips, in the World's First Quip Thesaurus title has to be the most preposterous claim in history, excepting, of course, claims that Obamacare will reduce costs, etc. What's shocking, is that the Quip Thesaurus explains how to create literally billions of quips in the first two dozen pages, coupled with another dozen pages in an appendix. Even with a mere two billion, that's an average in excess of 55.5 million per page. Atwood distinguishes quips from jokes on the basis of their objectives. The difference between them, he maintains, is that the objective of jokes is to get laughs while the objective of quips is to express opinions. He advocates employing alliteration and rhyme in quips because, they are the music of language that increase the likelihood that opinions will make impressions, have staying power and be repeated. For this, he points to Poe. At the risk of making Edgar Allen Poe groan in his grave...The Raven - Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary etc. - published in 1845, is arguably the most prominent poem of all time. Yet, stripped of rhyme and alliteration, its' message would have survived, forevermore, as little more, than a famously forgettable rant by a man perturbed by what he thought was a bird. Insofar as the sub-title Resource for writers when good enough isn't is concerned, extensive lists of verbs, adverbs and adjectives sans, definitions listed alphabetically in Quip Thesaurus appendices for creating quips, are convenient resources for anyone looking for the most effective words to express themselves - or anxious to confirm those they have in mind are the most effective. All such words are in dictionaries, of course, but wading hundreds of thousands of definitions in tiny print to find them can be a tedious, tiresome and time-consuming task. Some of Atwood's comments, such as those that follow are likely to elate or irritate. Bribe: Political perk Gun laws: protection for gangsters and governments Infinity2: projected U.S. national debt Millions: Fines banksters and other politically connected criminals occasionally have to pay for stealing billions Privacy: Former constitutional right Rare: Politician who hasn't accumulated millions since being elected Socialism: Fair and equitable distribution of poverty War: lifeblood of Military-Industrial complex The Quip Thesaurus is an enlightening and entertaining resource you, and anyone you may gift it to, will enjoy reading for hours and using for years.

Seller marked two records as “dispatched” under one tracking number, but only one was included in the packaging received. Complaint was sent immediately, to no response. Seller replied only after eBay intervention was mentioned. Claimed the warehouse didn't receive the item from supplier, and that “mistakes do happen”. When shown the item still part of their listings (with a higher price), seller went suddenly silent. Refund, rather than the record, was sent. Totally unprofessional.
