The mind of Mr J.G. Reeder
I remember the series from the 60s/70s and how much I had enjoyed watching it in my teens. Mr Reeder is an apparently innocuous little man of middle age who wouldn't say boo to a goose but, like Miss Marple, has a mind like a straight razor. As he says himself, he has a criminal mind. The stories are set in 1920s London complete with jazz-flavoured incidental music. He works for the Director of Public Prosecutions and is ex-Scotland Yard. He is a walking encyclopaedia of criminal knowledge and is able to get to the bottom of crimes with ease. There is a strong element of comedy in the stories as well which I really like. The actors and stories make up for the quality of the transfer to DVD from tape(?) which does judder a bit occasionally. The Mind of Mr. J. G. Reeder
One out of the archives! I watched it when originally broadcast and and always wanted to see it again. It is all dated, of couse, though not as much as you might expect as it is set in the 1920s anyway, but still very enjoyable. Hugh Burden is a delight to see and hear again after so many years, and perfect for the role. Recommended.
