Wasser ist in diesem Steppen- bis wustenahnlichem Landschaftsraum eine knappe und kostbare Ressource. Die Lehre von Erscheinungsformen des Wassers auf, uber und unter der Erdoberflache vermag Ruckschlusse auf von vergangenen Hochkulturen anwandte Wassernutzung, die Veranderung des Wasserregimes und Methoden fur einen zukunftig nachhaltigen Umgang mit dem lebenswichtigen Medium zu geben. Die Grundlagen der Hydrologie werden von den beteiligten naturraumlichen Komponenten wie Relief, Klima, Boeden und Gestein sowie in jungerer geologischer Zeit durch den Eingriff des Menschen in das System des Wasserkreislaufes gebildet. Je nach dem Zusammenwirken der Faktoren bildet sich ein regional spezifisches Gleichgewicht des hydrologischen Systems aus. Das Wasser ist auf der Erde und ihrer Atmosphare in einen Kreislauf gebunden und wandelt sich innerhalb diesem in verschiedene Aggregatzustande, Qualitaten und Mengenverteilungen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll der Weg des Wassers auf dem Gebiet des Nahen Ostens und dort speziell im Ausschnitt des Jordans und Toten Meeres, sowie Euphrat und Tigris betrachtet werden.
