Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Linguistik, Note: 1,0, Freie Universitat Berlin (Institut fur Deutsche und Niederlandische Philologie), Veranstaltung: Linguistische Erzahltheorien, 17 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: William Labov und Joshua Waltzky gelten als die Pioniere der linguistischen Erzahltheorie, da sie mit ihrem 1967 erschienenen Werk Narrative Analysis: Oral Versions of Personal Experience die zuvor nur von der Literaturwissenschaft betriebene systematische Analyse von Erzahlungen auch in die empirische Sprachwissenschaft eingefuhrt haben. Die vorliegende Arbeit hat zum Ziel, die Theorie Labovs und Waletzkys vor dem Hintergrund der Erkenntnisse neuerer Erzahltheorien kritisch zu untersuchen. Bei der Analyse, die sich am Aufbau der Arbeit Labovs und Waletzkys orientiert, wird zunachst das hier herrschende Missverhaltnis zwischen dem universalen Anspruch und der stark kontextbezogenen Wahl des Untersuchungsgegenstands deutlich gemacht. Als weiteres Problem erscheint die allzu kunstliche Art der Datenerhebung, die auf gezielt herbeigefuhrten Interviewsituationen beruht. Bei der formalen Analyse von Erzahlungen sind die kaum begrundete und willkurlich erscheinende Wahl von Teilsatzen als narrativer Grundeinheit sowie der bisweilen fragwurdige Gebrauch von 'Verschiebeproben' bei der Bestimmung unterschiedlicher Teilsatztypen zu bemangeln. Hinsichtlich der funktionalen Analyse ist kritisch anzumerken, dass die von Labov und Waletzky prasentierte 'Normalform' einer mundlichen Erzahlung lediglich als normative Idealform einer wohlgeformten Erzahlung, nicht aber als realitatsnahes, deskriptives Modell anzusehen ist. Zudem stellt die zu geringe Beachtung des interaktiven Charakters mundlicher Narrationen einen wichtigen Kritikpunkt dar. Trotz aller Kritik ist diese Pionierarbeit, die spatere Weiterentwicklungen durch Autoren wie Sacks oder Kallmeyer/Schutze erst moeglich machte, als uberaus wertvoller Beitr
