I bought this book on the advise of a friend, who really likes Cheri Huber. She makes some good points in this book, esp if you were bullied as a child or had demanding/exact parents who had great expectations of their kid(s). To find the self-esteem necessary to overcome thinking badly about oneself is her goal. The aforementioned friend always has trouble w/the sitting meditation and feels "guilty" about it all of the time, but Huber states that even if you begin sitting quietly at first and build up to it, yer gonna do fine. i believe that meditation can happen anywhere at any time that one chooses to find a quiet place to let go. Huber supplies, here, some postitive thought to living and coping and certainly there's nothing wrong w/enlightenment. Some words and phrases in this book might help some to spark something else that will help them along life's path. If yer thinking about getting it and wondering, I'd say to definitely get this book. It won't hurt you at all, and if anything, it might help you to obtain whatever goal or mind thought that you wish to have, for better living and coping w/life's struggles, no matter who you happen to be.Read full review
Straight forward and easy to read. It does, however, generalize and make assumptions about people and how they react to the way they were treated that are not necessarily true. Everyone gets told that things they are doing when they are very young are wrong for many reasons. Some of that advice actually saves us from future dangers. Not everyone absorbs from those negative responses to their actions the idea that they are not worthy. Read this to learn about POSSIBLE reasons for someone not to feel self worth but don't assume that this is hard and fast information about how to deal with all of the various types of personality and behavioral problems associated with lack of self worth and esteem.
One of the best, most helpful books I have ever read...and an easy read, too. This helps so much with our often unhealthy internal dialogue, when very few of us were ever taught how to deal with that.

This is by far the best book that I have found for anyone going through a rough patch or who could use some help with issues of self-esteem. The author is a long-time Zen teacher who has developed skillful means addressing individual suffering. I have given copies to friends over the years and recommend it heartily without reservation.
Great book, super easy to read
