  • If you're looking to add more character to your Battletech games, Mechwarrior is a simple system that will do just that.

The very title of this game tells you what you need to know - this is a role playing game designed to "spice up" your Battletech board games by giving your mech's pilots ("Mechwarriors") better definition than just the "Piloting 5, Gunnery 4" of the standard board game. Your characters will still pilot Battlemechs in Battletech games, but they'll also worry about keeping their Battlemechs in top shape, inter-personal squabbles and bragging rights, healing their wounds (and maybe getting cybernetic prosthetics), and no doubt some bar-room brawls and undercover missions in between combat sessions. I would have rated this game higher if it included more suggestions for adventures to be had when you're not behind your mech's controls. But the interior artwork is quite good, considering the publication date, and the game system itself will feel familiar to Battletech players, since they both use many of the same conventions.

  • A good follow-up to the first edition

Serves as a good companion follow-up work to the 1986 first edition, and the modular game engine design allows the GM to pick and choose what particular rules and/or features are going to get used at any one time, and to make alterations as needed or desired.
