The way I used to connect my guitar to PC was a usual guitar lead into a 3/4 jack connector and then into the PC mic socket. This method was the cheapest but the line was really noisy with my guitar apps (AmpliTube and Guitar Rig). Then I looked for a USB connector in the hope that it would eliminate the noise. I first tried the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable on its own, minus the game and after a couple of frustrating weeks trying to get it to work (I believe it could have been faulty), I returned it and later took a punt on this cable. It worked straight away, it sounded great and is now enjoyable to play. BTW, I also use WASAPI to reduce latency though Reaper on Windows 7. It means I can play along to YouTube as well as my mp3s. The only issues I'm having with it are a slight bit it noise, but I think that's something to do with my guitar's jack input because when I push any cable in and the noise stops, it always pops back out a little.Read full review

The problem is the delay between striking the strings and hearing the result through laptop speakers. Did find some suggestions on how to cut the delay, but a bit drastic as it involved turning off or altering a lot of laptop settings. Don't want to do that every time I have to put laptop back to normal use. The cable works well and maybe with an expensive desktop PC it would be OK. It is virtually unusable as it is, like listening to an echo on a mobile phone call.
