Pleasantly surprised.
I'm always dubious about pet and wildlife friendly slug control. But with a curious cocker and kids I had no choice but to try different friendly deterrents. Slugs were decimating my plants including canna lilies, irises, dahlias. I was using copper tape around the pots but the little bstrds weren't deterred. This spray is a game changer. Just look at the photos of my canna lilies. You can see the old eaten leaves and then the leaves that grew since I started spraying. Everything has been left alone. We go our at night and there are loads of slugs about but they seem confused- we find them on the ground all over but not on the plants. To top it off we had a hedgehog visit to happily hoover some up and we can rest easy knowing that it, the frogs, the birds won't be hurt whilst our plants ... My fault, but not impressed.
Maybe it was me, I did not read the description properly, but I did not realise at the time of ordering that this product does not kill the little blighters. I have made up the solution as directed and sprayed diligently. however there seems to have been no effect on my Hostas! Reading the packaging label it seems this only deters the slugs etc from munching on ones plants, a sort of Marmite effect, if they hate it they will leave your plants alone. Unfortunately it appears the my particular community of gastropods do not consider themselves averse to this taste and have therefore continued to munch away undeterred! What I was after was a liquid concentrate I purchased years ago. It killed slugs and eggs on contact without affecting the plants, great for paving and spraying under sheds ... Worked better than expected
I was sceptical, but I find it seems to be working to a large extent! It has protected my newly forming peppers and aubergines in my greenhouse which were being ruined by slugs/snails making holes in them. I've tried it on nicotania plants outside, and the damage seems to have been reduced. i'm now experimenting with it on cabbages, but it keeps raining, so I'll have to wait. I'll try it on dahlias next!I was sceptical, but I find it seems to be working to a large extent!
