This is a fast and capable dual core processor. I have used it with Microsoft and Linux operating systems. It works flawlessly with an Intel motherboard. I really don't have any complaints. The only negative would be the heat that it generates, but it's not really a problem. It requires a good cooling solution. I recommend the retail boxed cooling solution from Intel. However the plastic clips on the heat-sink are not ideal. The clips work the first time, but will let loose if you try to remove and then reuse the heat-sink. Would highly recommend this processor!

Why did I buy a Pentium D 945? Had a perfectly good ABIT AL8 (Intel 945P) motherboard laying around that I wanted to put to use. This Slot 775 MB is still "mainstream" in it's main features (PCI-E x 16, 4GB DDR2 up to 667Mhz, SATA Raid, etc.). But it doesn't Core 2 Duo, only Pentium D. Did some research and ended up looking for a later rev. Pentium D 940 to 950. ater-generation Pentium D (9xx) is getting harder and harder to find, since they've been out of production for a while now. Bid on several PD 950, 945, and 940, and finally won a 945 for under $70, including shipping. The Pentium D 945, step D0 (SL9QQ), is probably the best combination of speed and power-efficiency that is officially supported by this MB. It's also listed as the minimum CPU for Cyberlink PowerDVD if you want to do Blu-Ray playback. I'm mating it with an ATI Radeon HD4670 video card and expect it will get me through, with "mainstream" performance for a few years.Read full review
I got this processor to upgrade my old Intel Celeron 2.66 GHz and I am very pleased with its speed and performance. Got it dirt cheap also which is always nice! Since the motherboard only supports 2 GB of 667 MHz RAM I'm replacing it with one I also found on Ebay and at an awesome price. I have already purchased a motherboards and this CPU and motherboard combo rocks! By the way the motherboard will support up to 8 GB of PC5300 (667 MHz) RAM, but only 4 GB of PC6400 (800 MHz).

Good to use for any Motherboard that can only go as high. Totally worth having and used always in normal overclocking (stock cooler, no other expenses) until 3.8Ghz, it is stable, it does it's job pretty well. However, if the Motherboard is capable C2D then go C2D, it blows this one out!
