I've been looking for a smaller, more portable Android tablet, running at least Android 2.2/Froyo, and had been wavering between a 7" or 5" tablet. Having had a Viewsonic Gtablet for awhile, I required that the tablet have a capacitive (rather than resistive) touchscreen. I don't remember exactly how I found out about the Coby Kyros MID7022, but I ran across it while researching, and it seemed (a) to meet my minimum requirements, including having reasonable performance and a 7" capacitive touchscreen, (b) it was reasonably priced, and (c) it seem to have a reasonable amount of community support, including being rootable and having CWM and adb-capable (all VERY important with Android tablets). I typically mainly keep my Android devices "stock", but I like to have root, in order to use Titanium Backup, plus to be able to "clean up" things, so the MID7022 seemed to "fit the bill", again, at a very reasonable price for a 7" tablet with a capacitive touchscreen and a 1GHz processor. Plus, it has 512MB of RAM (a lot of the cheaper tablets have 256MB). Since receiving the tablet last week, with the help of info from androidtablets.net, I've been able to get CWM installed, rooted it, and gotten Market installed, so things are good. I've also been able to successfully run some fairly "heavy" games, including "Plants and Goblins" and "Air Attack HD". Performance has been reasonable, with very little "lag". Pros: - 7" capacitive touchscreen - 1GHz processor - 512MB RAM - HDMI (though I don't use that) - Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x) - Flash 10.3 seems to work - Rootable, and CWM is available. Market can be installed without root. - Titanium Backup, Slingplayer work. Cons: - Screen resolution is ok, but not great - Amount of the internal flash allocated as "internal storage" is somewhat smallish, ~300MB, so you have to be careful about how many apps are installed. The Settings app seems to have the ability to move stuff out of internal storage to the other part of the internal flash (4GB), but not all apps are moveable. - Battery life is not great. I haven't measured time for a full charge, but it appears to be less than 5 hours. Out-of-box, the MID7022 seems to have some phone software installed, which some people have theorized is sucking the power. After I rooted my MID7022, I removed those (Phone.apk and TelephonyProvider.apk), but I don't know for sure if it helped. - Some folks on androidtablets.net have reported wifi not working after waking from sleep. I haven't encountered that, because I typically shut down my tablets, rather than let them go to sleep. - Physical button placement is a little different from what I'm use to, but it may be because this is Gingerbread, rather than Froyo. There're 4 "physical" buttons: Power, Home, Menu, and Back. There is no physical button for Search or for Volume. Overall: A reasonably priced 7" Gingerbread Android tablet that just works, with reasonable portability. I got one for around $75 on EBay. It is well worth that price. It works well. As stated elsewhere the battery life is not so great, but for what I wanted it for it is fine as it is plugged in most of the time. It was easily rooted, and once rooted I was able to install Google Market easily. You can also install Market without rooting. It has some quirks, like the power button does not put it to sleep anymore, it keeps on waking up (although there are reports this can be fixed, but none of the workarounds worked for me). I want to use it for development so it works fine for that case. It also runs angry birds very nicely, a big plus.
It arrived on time as promised and is a great value for the money. Since I got it I use it almost every day. I've been getting alot of where did I get this tablet from all of my friends and family.I like it very much although I'm still learning how to use it completely. The owners manual and the company site needs to show all the ins and outs. Very much like using a laptop. Using the touch screen is a little bit tricky but once you get use to it it's fun. This tablet is the right size and memory for my use. I had to get a protective case to carry it along, the one that comes with it doesn't offer protection. I haven't had any problems getting into Wifi even when I go down to the VA. What more can I say is that this tablet rocks and I would but any other. Oh if you're worried about space buy a 32GB mini sd card.Read full review
I bought this Coby Kyros 7022 for mainly games, web browsing and music. So far, it does all of those things perfectly! Gaming is incredible on this tablet due to the processor. Games like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja work without a flaw. The web browsing is great to. I installed Flash Player 10.3 so i can pretty much due what ever a 500$ tablet could do. The music player is also Great. I just put in my SD Card loaded with my songs and listen to my music. The only con i have about this tablet is the Wi-Fi. You have to be in a pretty close to the wireless connection to get a good 3 or 4 bars. The camera isn't the best but still works great for a quick picture of myself.
Surprisingly good tablet for the price. The form factor is best for medium sized hands--only a bit on the heavy side. The processor is fast and the screen is accurate and responsive.
