When is comes to making Jewelry you need quality tools and quality hammers are a must have. You can't cut corners on this and for good reason, you do not want to mar or scratch your products which will require fixing it.. Rawhide is good this work and normal for using in making professional Jewelry - this is a good hammer and I have quite a few of them - You can buy other hammers but you're going to have more work to do when you mar or scratch that jewelry - simply put why bother just buy the right tools When is comes to making Jewelry you need quality tools and quality hammers are a must have. Good Mallet
Have used Garland mallets for years in my Tin Shop. I have several sizes. They are the best. I do need to break them in a bit when new. Repeated careful hammering on a clean anvil works well to soften the edges. They have a good balance and little rebound.
