Anyone who has used a DSR 920 and liked it is practically required to upgrade to this model. The DSR 922 is a necessity to anyone who still has the "B.U.D." (big ugly dish) and likes it. I bought this one because my DSR 920 had technically expired. It had run the course of the life of the battery (9-12 years)and the unit was rendered useless. The prices of programming for these receivers can't be beat and the picture is exquisite. I was determined to find a DSR922 but its not the easiest to find one of these units since they are no longer made. This one I bought used and it arrived exceptionally well packed. I set it up, programmed the satellites in with lots of help from the manual and my service provider. I called my programming source and the unit picked up where my old one left off with a few additions. My old unit was not able to get all of the digital channels offered by the movie services. This one can. The programming guide looks different than the old unit as this guide has color-not just the monotone gray. It works very similar to the old unit and even the old remote works with it just the same. I really, really recommend this unit if you want to continue using your backyard satellite dish.Read full review
Conversion Starting From G4 Once you verify that you are getting a picture on G4(G6) Channel 16, Press OPTIONS 6-4-4 and select G0 satellite from the program satellites list, hit enter then. (Please keep in mind that you are not going to or moving to the 'G0' satellite, rather we are just using this for a template). Go to channel 13. After first confirming you are on LINE 1 (Dish Position), move the dish about 40 to 60 numbers to the right (West). Observe the QUALITY meter at bottom of screen. Once it registers a reading, fine tune LINE 1 (dish position) and LINE 2 (skew) back and forth until you get the highest quality reading possible. Do a MASTER RESET by pressing Remote Control Keypad OPTIONS - 6-7-7-8-7. Press ENTER when prompted to Confirm Reset. Receiver will turn itself OFF and power ON. Let it go through the WARM UP sequence. Clock will read 12:00. Power ON manually. Press OPTIONS 6-4-3-3 and select the G0 satellite. Press ENTER. Press CH UP to channel 13. Observe QUALITY meter. Drop the highlighter to SKEW level and press Remote Control Keypad arrows left or right to see if you can get a higher QUALITY reading. Press GO BACK to save after succeeding, and press ENTER to "Save G0" when prompted. Exit out of all menus. Once CHANNEL total reaches 896, wait 5 minutes longer, and then press OPTIONS 6-4-4 and locate the X4 satellite name. Highlight, press ENTER, GO BACK and ENTER to save the X4 satellite. Exit out of all menus. Call up X4 satellite and confirm reception of DMX Audio channels 936 & 937. IF you cannot find the X4 satellite, repeat the SOFT RESET described in Step 4, call up OPTIONS 6-5 and watch CHANNEL counter until it reaches 896 or more. Wait 30 minutes or more in an attempt to ensure that enough information has been downloaded. Repeat Step 5 and add the X4 satellite. After calling up X4-936, press OPTIONS 5. Note the QUALITY meter reading. Move the highlighter to #2 (SKEW). Use the Keypad left and right arrows to move the SKEW setting and set for highest QUALITY reading. Exit out and check X4-937, repeating the process for the opposite polarity. Exit out and info should store. Press OPTIONS 6-7-7-8-0 to perform an AUTHORIZATION RESET. Be aware that these are hidden commands and will not register all numbers on the TV screen. Just press Remote Control keypad buttons as instructed. On remote, press OPTIONS 6-7-7-8-1 (Manual Tune) to confirm Authorization Reset. Look for EMM Reset number, which should be 0 (zero). Call up X4 satellite, channel 216. Press OPTIONS 6-5, write down Receiver # (000-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxx) from LINE 2. Watch TRIP COUNTER while you contact PROGRAMMING CENTER for Re-Hit at 1-800-500-9268. Once you have Programming Guide and Subscription Channels, you can also access other satellites.Read full review
I purchased the Motorola 922 receiver as a replacement for a General Instrument 922 that was struck by lightning. The Motorola unit seems to be well engineered and is an upgrade from the GI model because it recovers data more quickly after a power outage. Though it does not provide a high definition video, the programming is less expensive than than that of the other small digital systems. Also, the Motorolas are less likely to have a weak or dying memory battery within the motherboard since they are newer.
Had this type of receiver before the small dish companies monopolized the availability of direct broadcast to the large c ban dish owners. they made a deal with Motorola to shut down their feed system and we lost most of the wide selection of programing. fortunately we still have sky vision for programing and c ban equipment. this is a very good receiver and currently works great with programing through sky vision. works with MPG receivers also as the dish mover is accurate. big c ban dis has always given a first gen quality picture even in a downpour.
The DSR 922 is a great receiver, programming is very reasonable and much cheaper than the little pizza box satellite companies or cable. One thing of note, if you buy one used, if it's not already been done, you will need to have a new battery installed and remapped/updated in order to subscribe to programming from http://programming-center.net/. You can contact Skyvision.com for a battery change and update the 4dtv receiver. Keep supporting C band and 4dtv!
