    Roku Premiere okay not great

The device is easy to use and setup. I have cable subscription so I can use a lot of the channel apps which require cable subscription. I don't like the fact that I have to individually login to each channel app. It was time consuming. Plus I did it on my smartphone. It should be able to detect or ask once only. Also, the startup of the Roku is a bit slow. When I turn it on, I have to wait a couple minutes. I guess it is establishing an Internet connection to the server. I wish Roku had all the local channels live. This would eliminate my antenna. I use a separate tuner box for live local channels. I wish roku offered NBC sports local so I could watch my warriors games without having to use my laptop for screen mirroring. If I can access my cable over a laptop, I should be able to access ...

This works well enough but not a cut the cord solution as yet.

The first thing that I noticed is that there does not appear to be a way to turn this off. It eventually goes off on its own but this seems wasteful of energy. Second, the apps seem pretty basic but were not as extensive as I would have liked. It is not a cut the cord solutinon to me as yet. I bought this player for several reasons, mainly to see it was a good option for cutting the cord, i.e., dumping cable and I wanted a player that was less proprietary about its apps., i.e., able to play Amazon, PBS, Netflix and a few others. I am a big news watcher but I do not watch any of the 4 major stations so this was why for me it was not a cut the cord as yet solution. I am very glad that I can now Play the most important to me. PBS, Amazon and Netflix all in one and with headphones so that ...

  • almost perfect

I have owned 4 Roku 3's and now this Premiere +; the older 3's had a usb port, that has disappeared on all models but the top "Ultra"; I am assuming that time-of-purchase determines what extra buttons are on the remote, as they are different on three of them. Some have the enter button below the "+"-shaped navigation button, some have the enter in the center of that cross-shaped control; both work well. This particular model, Premiere+, has no A-B buttons, and i keep forgetting where the close-captioned control is on this remote (this grampa babysits and need the captions during nap times!) The surfaces of both parts are matte finish, a decided improvement over the smooth surfaces of the Roku 3s. It still has a lanyard attached, which is very helpful in finding and keeping hold of the ...

  • HDCP 2.2 required!

I've been using roku ever since I picked up a fancy, new Roku 3 a long while back. They're great! My Roku 4 exhibited many of the problems that circulate the internet, so I decided to upgrade to the Premiere+ which effectively mirrors the features of the Roku4 (but without the problems). The first thing that hit me was that it lives up to its promise. No loud fans, no remote pairing issues, all fixed! The downside is that I was all of a sudden unable to view 4K video! Fear not, I was able to rectify the issue by using a different HDMI port on my stereo receiver; however, it was a bit of a headache. Be forewarned that you will need HDCP 2.2 support on your TV and any device that daisy chains to the TV (like a receiver, for example).

  • EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!

I needed a streaming device to provide 4k content to my new 4k UHD HDR tv. I have been using a ROKU3, but needed to upgrade for the new tv 4k resoluton. The ROKU Ultra had a couple of additional features, but i did not need them and was able to do hat wanted with a less expensive unit. The changeover from the ROKU3 to the new ROKU Premiere+ was sextremely easy and the setting chages were extremely easy to make. The unit has been performing perfectly and I have no complaints at all at this time.
