As far as I can tell so far, this item is as advertised. I find it a bit heavier and bulkier than expected but the results are good. This item is ideal for a non pro just taking family, vacation or hobby photo's. The price is fair

This lens is what I expected for the price. The stated "great" condition is an exaggeration. The outer bayonet for a lens hood is unusable because of a drop. He autofocus works, but will not go all the way to infinity or close-focus. The manual focus and image stabilization work well. The zoom is smooth and does not creep.

This is the older version of this lens (the newer one is a 70-300), I have had it for about a year and use it mostly for aviation photography. It is quick and accurate on focusing, and stays sharp well into the 200mm range, but does go a little soft as you get closer to 300mm. I have used the IS feature a few times in low light situations such as my brother's graduation, and while I am glad I have it I have learned not to rely on it too much as it only improves camera shake by two stops. There are only two complaints, this is a heavy piece of glass and can take it's toll on your neck if you have it mounted to an EOS-1 or EOS-3 even with out the booster. My other complaint is that this lens is a "creeper" if you have it hanging from a strap the lense can bee pulled from 75mm to the 100mm position by its own wieght. Even with these two concerns, it is a great lens and worth every penny.Read full review
This lens is a great choice for your moderately experienced photographer. This lens body does NOT have the IS feature and requires a steady hand (or use of a tripod). Also requires some know how of proper camera settings because the focal length of the lens is greater than the square law of the flash. You can open your aperture, but, this also adds the risk of even more blur and loss of fine details. Great for outdoor use, not perfect inside, but I'm still in love. =)
I am happy with this purchase. I was very involved in photography as a young adult and have gotten reinvolved in digital photography after being given a D20 and upgrading to a D40. I wanted a lens that was within my budget, easy to use and good until I could transition to a higher quality, more expense lens. I use this lens to take pictures of wild-life, kids' sporting events and nature scenes. I am very happy with the lens and the pictures it takes.
