Have not used a sickle for a long time and more used to the flat continuous blade which regularly requires sharpening. This serated blade tends to tear the vegetation and can get clogged up quickly, but is light in the hand and can demolish stinging nettles fairly quickly.

    Small scythe

    I have found this light weight scythe to be very useful. I used it to chop through brambles and nettles successfully. My only concern was the handle was shorter than I had expected.

    Smaller than you think but also very cheap.

    The 16" measurement is the total curved length of the blade, however the whole sickle only measures 13" from tip of blade to far end of the handle so I think any nettles will get you if you're not covered! I would need a longer handle and a less hooked blade but for the price you can't complain, just realise it may be a bit smaller than you expect.

    Not what I expected.

    The product is no good for cutting long grass or bracken as with the serrated edge it tears at everything and not cuts. It is comfortable in the hand but this does not compensate for the lack of cutting. I will have to look for a sickle that has a smooth edge which I will keep sharp to enable cutting back of everything.

    Managed to clear overgrown area in a couple of days.

    Lighter and shorter than expected but works well. More macho sickle would have cost several times more. The serrated edge helps it cut heavier stalks and the small size helps make it easier to control. However, small size means more swipes to clear the weeds. Note that, as this has a sharp edge and point, care (and steel toe caps) are essential.
