    • Spike

A readable, compelling book, funny in parts. His memoirs-style have changed over the 5 books from a slapstick, to a diary format to a format based more on places and latterly on Spike as an entertainer and his love affair. Enjoyable

    • Spike in recovery

Having read spikes previous books about his life prior to WWII, his preparation for his position in the Gunnery and subsequent action in North Africa and Italy this book talks about his time recuperating in Italy and ends with him finding a place in the combined services entertainment troop. Spike seems to have found his calling. It is interesting to see this side of Spike, but as a read I found myself drifting, the book lacking the drive of the previous volumes.
