      An enjoyable Greek detective yarn

      Anna Zouroudi has produced another enjoyable yarn in her Greek detective series featuring the lovable Hermes Diaktorous. Set on a Greek Island 'The Messenger of Athens' is the story of how the death of an elderly man is not the accident it was first thought and the ensuing efforts of a greedy developer to grab the land he left behind. With twists and turns aplenty and many amusing authentic local characters Zouroudi's descriptive narrative of the Greek way of life will have readers looking for the other 6 books in the series based on the 7 deadly sins.

      The Taint of Midas

      I believe this is the latest of the 'Fat man' detective books concerning his investigations to bring the guilty to justice of some kind. This last book is darker than the previous ones almost as if she has re-visited her beloved Greek island and found them somewhat spoilt and wanting compared to when writing the previous books. Another absorbing story however and an excellent read that I would recommend. If you are new to the books, I would start with an earlier novel as the authors writing style and content seems to evolve from describing small-time parochial wrongdoings in the earlier books to corporate missdeeds in the latest. It's a real shame that there are not more in the series.
