About this product

Product Information

The son of a black African father and a white American mother, Obama was only two years old when his father walked out on the family. Many years later, Obama receives a phone call from Nairobi: his father is dead. This sudden news inspires an emotional odyssey for Obama, determined to learn the truth of his father's life and reconcile his divided inheritance. Written at the age of thirty-three, Dreams from My Father is an unforgettable read. It illuminates not only Obama's journey, but also our universal desire to understand our history, and what makes us the people we are.

  • A seriously good and readable insight into a very impressive man

I wanted to see whether there is substance behind the public presentations of Obama's politics and persona and I though a reading of this might give some insight. To my great surprise its quite Brilliant!!!! I wasn't sure when I bought the book whether it would be anything of a read. So much stuff written by public figures is dreary and self-congratulatory. To say I was surprised is a serious understatement. I picked it up one day with the intention of just skimming the preface to get a feel for its style. - I don't normally bother much with prefaces but did this time and wow!; I was captivated and couldn't put it down. This man can write seriously well and if you want an insight into both his intellect and his motivations this will provide it and you will be impressed by both. This is a ...
