    Great old movies

    Love old movies,Charlie Chan is one of our favorites. In black and white but still very very good. No excessive violence, bad language, and sex, just a good mystery to try and figure out whodunit.

    Charlie Chan movies are not a "mystery".

    Charlie Chan movies are not for everyone. They are about as basic as any old 1930s or 1940s mystery films. By today's standards, they are very simplistic, but still entertaining for those of us who love old films. The stories are so so, the acting borderline, and the production basic to the max. As long as the quality of the DVD is decent, and the expectations of the watcher is realistic, they are worth the asking price on ebay.

    Dated But Wonderful

    To some, Charlie Chan may seem corny; however, as portrayed by Warner Oland, he comes alive. Sidney Toler, who replaced Warner when he died, was okay, but Warner set the bar very high. The shows move right along, then are entertaining, and with the improvements made, they are easy to view. For the price this collection ranks with the best of the detectives (Miss Marple, Frost, Morse, Dr. Blake). See just how good the B-Detective Charlie Chan from the 30's really was, and I think you will agree with me.

    Charlie Chan restored DVD's Vol 1 to 5

    I really enjoy the Chan series, they used to be seen regularly on Fox Movie Channel and AMC, before AMC's format changed. These classics have been absent for quite some time, so I was particularly interested when I saw that they had been released on DVD and restored as well. In addition to being restored, they have excellent Special Features. The Special Features include background on Earl Derr Biggers, and the Honolulu detective( by the name of Chang) that MAY have inspired Biggers to create the Chan character, insights from his descendants, and information about the writers Ellis and Logan. The recreation of the "lost" Chan movie, "Charlie Chan's Courage" is also well worth the price of the set in which it is contained. All in all, I can highly recommend the series to any classic ...

    Charlie Chan Fan

    I am a black and white movie buff. Mr and Mrs. North, The Bowery boys (Eastside kids). Black & white cowboy pics. But my all time favorite is charlie chan. We watched them all of the time during our (my bro. & I) childhood. My daddy worked, so we were latchkey kids. I love each and everyone of these. I intend to get more of these. Thanks Again.
