A Well Researched Book Of Hitler's Elite Trooops!
As a longtime buff of WW II and history I used to own this book many years ago though my copy got lost. I saw it on Ebay along with two other books from the Time-Life series of the war and I placed what turned out to be the winning bid for all three books. This volume is very well researched and full of facts and fascinating information about Adolph Hitler's elite fighting troops. It starts out with the rise to power of the Nazi Party in the early nineteen-thirties along with the election of Hitler to the position of chancellor of Germany. The SS were the true elite fighting force of Germany's military as only true Aryans and members of the Nazi Party could volunteer to become it's enlisted soldiers. Officers were picked from the elite cream of the crop of those young german males who considered it a true privilege to be able to study in the SS Officer school. The SS were among the first of Germany's troops to take part in the invasion of Poland which was the spark to begin the war in Europe which would eventually claim many millions of human lives. This book also contains photos of actual uniforms worn by the various divisions of the SS including those worn by the Panzer Tank crews which were under the command of Hermann Goehring. And it was Heinrich Himmler who was the man at the top of the SS's hierarchy and he in turn answered only to the fuhrer himself, Adolph Hitler. All in all whether you're a student or buff of WW II history then you will find The SS a very fascinating read overall. I was so glad to be able to find this book again after so many years and it was in excellent condition along with the other two books in the series. Lawrence Domingo
